F3-E1 on a KitchenAid oven is an open oven-sensor fault: the control on the Whirlpool-family platform reads the temperature sensor as an open circuit and stops, because it cannot regulate heat without a trustworthy reading. On a KOSE or KFGC oven it often shows when the oven will not heat or holds the wrong temperature.
The RTD sensor changes resistance with temperature, and the control reads that to hold the setpoint. When the sensor circuit reads open, from a failed sensor or a broken connection, the board has no temperature feedback and logs F3-E1 rather than heat blind.
We test the RTD sensor's resistance and check its harness back to the control. An open sensor is replaced; a broken connection in the harness is repaired. We confirm the oven reads and holds temperature against a probe before we close out.
What You Can Safely Check
- Cut power for a minute in case the reading is transient.
- Note whether the oven will not heat at all or overshoots.
- Keep the oven off until the sensor is tested.
- Have the model and serial ready for the correct RTD.
