F2 on a Thermador oven is an over-temperature fault: the control saw the cavity climb past its safe ceiling and cut power to the element or gas valve. It is a protective shutdown, most common during the high heat of a self-clean cycle on a Masterpiece or Pro Grand oven.
An oven should stop heating when it reaches the setpoint. When it keeps climbing, either the sensor is under-reading and telling the control the oven is cooler than it is, or a bake relay has welded closed and will not stop calling for heat. Either way the safety logic trips F2 and shuts the oven down.
The fix depends on which of those it is. We test the RTD sensor across its resistance curve and check whether the heat relay physically releases when the control commands it. A stuck relay gets the relay board; a low-reading sensor gets a new sensor.
What You Can Safely Check
- Turn the oven off and let it cool fully before any further use.
- Note whether F2 appears during bake, broil, or self-clean, since self-clean drives the highest heat.
- Avoid running self-clean until the cause is found.
- Have your model and serial ready for the correct sensor or relay board.
